Stretching Before Run Does Not Prevent Injury

Researchers have found that stretching before you go for a run does not prevent, or cause injury to those taking part in the exercise activity. The study was conducted by a team of researchers who focused on a group of 2,729 runners. All of those who took part in the study ran for 10 or more miles each and every week. They split the runners up into two groups, with half being in a group who takes part in stretching, and the other not stretching before running.
Those who took part in stretching stretched various part sof heir legs, including hamstrings, quadriceps, etc.
The idea was to see if stretching was able to prevent injury, or cause injury. What researchers found was that those who never stretched and continued not to stretch were not any more likely to suffer from an injury. The catch here thogh is that those who would always stretch before running and then stoppd stretching were more likely to be injured during the run. The conclusion is that if you never stretched, you will not be more likely to prevent injury by starting to stretch.
Instead, it is best to keep the regimen that you are doing and not change, as that will allow your body and muscles to adjust depending on your routine.
The study has been presented at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
